This hat pattern is perfect for a beginner, as it uses bulky yarn and only knits and purls.

Constructed of 1x2 ribbing, and reversed on the brim for continuity when worn, this hat is designed to emphasize vertical lines. The choice of a speckled yarn adds visual interest while the choice of ribbing prevents the speckles from muddling intentional striation.

Finished and blocked piece measures approximately 19.5in/50cm in circumference and stretches to fit a variety of adult head sizes.

Yarn

1-2 skeins of Wool-Ease Thick & Quick, or any equivalent super-bulky yarn. Example is shown in "Bedrock".

Needles

  • 9mm (US 13) circular needles, 16 inch
  • 9mm (US 13) double-pointed needles, 7.5 inch

Gauge

10 stitches in 1x2 ribbing = 4in/10cm.
